Kendall Adams: “But isn’t [substitutionary atonement] the heart of the gospel? Is that the heart of the gospel?”
William P. Young: “No! Ha, no! The heart of the gospel is that we are, are so pursued, the heart of the gospel is in Ephesians 1:5. He predestined us before the foundation of the world to be adopted as sons and everything is by, for and through Jesus, and when Jesus dies, all die, all die.”
Yes, children. William P. Young, that NY Times best selling author of The Shed has confirmed what many have suspected. He’s not a Christian after all. Mr. Young denies the doctrine of substitutionary atonement which is an essential Christian doctrine. Permit me to plainly interpret that for you…’tis a deal breaker.
So, my question to all of you who are googly-eyed over The Shed is this…why have you not thrown this wad of paper in the garbage where it belongs? Why do you insist on calling this a Christian book? Why won’t you pick up your Bible and read the very Word of God Himself? He speaks for Himself quite clearly in the pages of the Bible without the help of Mr. Young’s vividly heretical imagination.
You can read a partial transcript of the interview here and listen to the entire interview here. You can read Kendall Adam’s excellent blog with an ongoing examination of The Shed here. And, to hear Dr. Albert Mohler’s review go here.

The sad thing is, no one in the fad driven mainstream of what used to be the church will notice…

Hi, Jules. I have enjoyed your posts of late. I did read this book and was alternately horrified and confused. I confess the thing that kept me reading ’til the end was the claim that it is the “…next Pilgrim’s Progress…”. Not even close.
Anyway, about his statement. Did he deny substitutionary atonement or just disagree it is the heart of the gospel? I don’t agree with his disagreement (that sounds confusing), I just want to make sure I’m reading him correctly.
Thanks for this clearly spoken info! It is horrifying that this stuff passes itself off as Christian and ends up confusing people more than anything.
Why is the title of this book “The Shed”? Has he authored another book?
Jenifer:
No, he has not authored another book. The book cover is a parody which is an expression of satire. Satire is the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule to expose vice or folly.
It seems you did not read the post.

This report gets me off the hook of having to read this latest form of clap-trap. And the next misguided person who tells me it changed her life, I can now ask her to clarify her position on whether Jesus died for her sins or not. Because the answer will certainly change her life.
Hoo boy! I told my husband about this article. His words, “Well, it seems that the Shack is really an Outhouse.”
I do love this man!
I do admit I bought the book, and I hated it from the very first page and actually did literally throw it away after about page 12. It was just so very, very weird.
I have been given an autographed copy of this book by my in-laws after hearing about it from friends and family for months.
For some reason – which I can’t explain – I had absolutely NO interest in reading it. Shelved it immediately. Didn’t even put it in my “to read” stack. Now I know why.
Thanks for this post….I bought the book and read the first 5 chapters and was disgusted before I got that far. Turning to the first page of chapter 6 and reading the first 2 sentences finished me off. I am horrified that some Christian tv personalites have endorsed this book after reading it for themselves.
Disgusting, is all I can say!
