A Time of Thanksgiving

by Everyday Mommy on November 10, 2009

This is my first year to participate in Rebecca Writes annual November of Thanksgiving and I pray that you’ll consider joining in as well.

Visit Rebecca’s site for details.

I’m thankful for friends.  Not just any friends…Christian friends.  Friends who belong to our Lord Jesus Christ and are part of His body.  There is often an instant affinity when believers meet, whether it be in person or via electronic means.  I’ve never seen many of my dearest friends face-t0-face, for we’ve been brought together through the strange and wonderful world of the internet.  I’d like to take the next few days to share my thanks for individuals who’ve meant so very much to me.

I’ll begin with Jill, a/k/a Rabbit.  Oh…did I just out her?  Jill is not only my friend, she also happens to be my (younger) cousin.  We grew up just a few miles from each other, but only saw one another at Christmas and Easter.  Those were family holiday get-togethers and there was a strained relationship between the adults.  My parents weren’t crazy about her parents and her parents weren’t crazy about mine.  Family tensions may have influenced how we felt toward one another and each of us grew up, went off to college, got married and had kids, but little contact.  Jill had her life and I had mine.

Then, about five years ago, we reconnected via…you guessed it…the internet.  We had so much more in common than we ever realized and Christ was at the center of it all.  I can say that Christ has bound our hearts together as only He can do.  I love Jill for her intelligence, her quick wit, her laugh and all her Nye-thing qualities.  It’s a Nye thing.  For me she is a confidant, a shoulder and the sister I don’t have.  She is my cousin.  She is my friend.  She is my fellow believer, and for all these things I give God thanks.

I love you, Jill.  More than you know.

Happy tears. :) You sharpen me, you make me laugh, and the shared back story gives us a depth many friends can never attain. Underlying it all…Jesus. Even if we can’t sit down together for dinner in this life, we will when we go home.

And it won’t be oogy remakes of old Swedish dishes, jello salad, or mooshy turkey stuffing with :::shudder::: oysters.

I love you too, my sister!

Great post. There is definitely a special bond between fellow Christians. How neat for you to be so connected now with your cousin through the internet. God can use technology for much good if we let him.
