One More Christmas

by Everyday Mommy on December 26, 2009

2010 has been an interesting year, to say the least.  I’m sure many of you have experienced trials during these twelve months and challenges you did not foresee.  For us 2010 has been a year of slowing down, re-organizing and refocusing.  Simple things are often better things.  Less really is more.  Family, home and church are priorities.

Our holiday was low-key, which seems to bring out the best in all of us.  We’ve tried to do less and be more this year.  We’ve enjoyed more “Den Time”, as we call it with more fires in the fireplace, more suppers at home, more game nights and snugglefests.  It has been worth it and more valuable than all the pricey gifts/vacations/events combined.

I pray your New Year brings you closer to God, closer to your family and closer to all that truly matters. I encourage you to make 2010 the year that you study and know and apply the Word of God like never before.  I pray you’ll join me in the endeavor.  I’ll begin posting regularly in early January as I begin studying anew.  Hope to see you.  Until then, here are a few photos of our unusually white Christmas.

Christmas morning with Johnny, our now 8 year-old boy. He’s our Christmas baby.

We wished for a white Christmas and we got it.  Note that the snow is as deep at the seats of these plastic, patio chairs (about 14″).

This is the view from my office window…on the 2nd floor.  Note the snow.

We make sure to clear some snow from our patio and feed our bird-friends.  The seeds even attracted a Red-bellied Woodpecker.

And, momma Cardinal stopped by, too.

Amen. I feel a desperate need for the Word lately. Thanks for the encouraging word.

I can’t say that I’m sorry to see 2009 go. It’s been a very hard year in many, many ways. I am so thankful for our Lord’s sustaining grace through it all, and for his faithfulness and steadfastness. I’m also thankful for the growth he has brought in our lives through the trials and pray it will serve us will in the coming year.

P.S. Jules… I must admit I felt a little like I was in the Twilight Zone when I started reading your post… like I had slept through 2010 and it was over already! I’m pretty sure you must have had a year like mine!

I’m ready to kiss 2009 goodbye. Period. But I am loving the pictures – it looks like here, like I could just come next door and sit by your fire.

Wouldn’t that be lovely!
