Monday Status Report

by Everyday Mommy on January 4, 2010

Emulating my friend Lisa Writes, and thinking that a weekly status report will help me get back to blogging. Less Facebook, less Twitter, more blog.

Writing my second blog post of 2010.

Thinking seriously of committing Social Networking Suicide.

Feeling too absorbed by the culture.

Wanting less stuff, more life.

Drinking room-temp coffee.

Listening to my son finish his school work.

Seeing the southern sun warming my office windows.

Relieved that my five week illness is finally lifting.

Happy to say goodbye to the holidays and move on to a fresh new year.

Hoping that my birthday will slip by quietly.

Eager to begin our study of the book of Ruth.

Ready to get busy.

Love it! Oh, I too want more life, less stuff–but am unsure how that plays out in my real life…

Me, too. Maybe we can figure it out together :)

I commit social networking suicide and then keep coming back. The real problem I have is staying dead.

I’d love to drop FB but all my family is on there, so how does one do that without ticking off mom who lives 3,000 miles away?

So desperately want simplicity back!

And honestly, I’m lonely. Sigh.

Love that: “less stuff, more life”.

Hope you continue to feel better Jules. Five weeks is way too long to be sick.

It’s funny. A relative over Christmas asked me when I was going to get on Facebook — other folks were asking about me. Another relative blurted out, “It’s not gonna happen.” Later, my husband asked me about that. I told him that I would love to see pictures of friends and family and hear what is going on with their lives, but I have faced the fact that I am a poor correspondent, and seeing the surface details of someone’s lives won’t really change that. Developing a surface relationship won’t really change that. And I also know I would have a propensity to spend too much time on Facebook. Additionally, one of my children recently quit Facebook after a period of using it too much and inappropriately, and I think my not using it will help to not “cause one of these little ones to stumble.” My husband has a saying, “Just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should.”

Question: Do you think that the social networking mediums are lulling people into a false sense of relationship and even ministry? I mean as opposed to face-to-face and voice-to-voice relationship.

Yes, Suzanne. I think that’s a very real possibility.
