So, I’m sitting here making out a menu for the week, plus the shopping list and thinking about blogging and the meaning of life. I started blogging in 2005 and started designing blogs around 2007. But, if I’m to be totally/brutally honest I must confess that I’m utterly burned out on blog designs. I slapped up the Order Pad Closed sign in November, but a number of folks ignored it and sent in orders anyway. Pffffft…I’m truly at the point where I have nothing left to contribute to the blog design world. At least not at my current level of pricing. Folks want completely custom work for for very little in return and this has turned the design hemisphere of my brain to mush.
‘Spose I need an extended break?

Hey! I’m really glad to see you blogging again. I was wondering if you could design and maintain a blog for me. I want a really snazzy design and I know you’ll do it for me because I’m so special. I want it to have scrolling text and multilayered design and a hand-drawn cartoon, too. I’ll trade you this box of Kleenex for it, k?
Rabbit…and for this you get a swift kick in the pants.
Rabbit is funny!!
Snort.
No, Rabbit is not funny. Do not encourage her.
p.s. Rabbit is my cuz. My younger, sassy cuz.

That’s a bunch of bologna! You have designed some of the coolest, most authentic things I’ve ever seen.
You just need to make it worth your while, my dear. Increase your prices and don’t apologize for it one bit. Those who are not serious, or who do not want a cookie cutter design will fall by the wayside. Those who do will be very pleased and eager to pay you for your precious time. And precious it is.
Janette just loves me, so she’s biased.
Oh girl, you do great work. I still get compliments on what you made for me on a regular basis and I still love it and have no desire to change it and I’ve had my design for a year and a half now. The scripture “a workman is worthy of his wages” comes to mind.

Creativity is so stifled when we turn our passions into work. It’s a sad reality. I’m sorry you’re at “that place” and hope you get a well-deserved break.
